Better Upgrade, Better Quality
MHE-Demag’s KBK Systems improve production processes with faster turn-around time.
Recently, MHE-Demag Australia provided three 1,600kg double girder KBK Light Crane Systems to one of Australia’s leading commercial insulation manufacturers to assist them with improving their production line. The project was embarked upon with the intention to improve material handling efficiency, reduce damage to equipment and improve safety.
An essential part of the manufacturing process involves loading rolls of raw material into the production machinery. The previous existing production design featured floor-bound equipment such as a forklift with jib attachment and an arrangement of slings and lifting beams. This selection of ground-level handling machinery was inefficient in terms of space usage and time, all the while posing a safety risk to the workers and machinery due to limited manoeuvring space.
In close collaboration, MHE-Demag customised a compact arrangement which integrated with the existing machinery framework, providing the required capacity and height to efficiently lift the rolls into the machinery. During the design process, a number of site visits were arranged and drawings exchanged to prepare the best possible solution for the client. Once the design was finalised, all three KBK systems were manufactured, installed and commissioned within seven business days, accommodating all the customer’s needs. The technical solution featured three KBK Light Crane Systems with KBKII-H tracks in double girder arrangements and DC-Com 10-1600h hoists with a rated capacity of 1,600kg each.
The KBK system freed up floor space that could be used for other operations, increased safety by removing the forklift from the congested area as well as increased efficiency as the loading work is now completed faster and requires only a single operator to complete the task.
