Hampden Bridge
The Hampden Bridge is the oldest timber suspension bridge in Australia that is currently still use. The heritage listed structure has been opened over 120 years ago in 1898. At the time the bridge has been constructed to allow local farmers to cross the Kangaroo River and thus to boost the local agriculture. Due to its iconic look and with medieval style towers on either side in combination with its unique character, the Hampden Bridge is now not only a tourist attraction, but also still an integral part of the road network in Australia’s Kangaroo Valley.
Keeping The Bridge Alive
To maintain the Hampden Bridge and to ensure safe use for vehicle traffic, the structure undergoes regular maintenance. Fully galvanised KBK tracks are mounted to the underside of the bridge and used to suspend a maintenance platform. This maintenance platform can dismantled and is only in use when needed to ensure that the overall look of the bridge is not impacted. By suspending the platform off the KBK tracks, the maintenance work can be carried out safely and efficiently. In addition the galvanised KBK tracks are highly durable and will allow maintenance work to be carried out for years to come.
