Successful Installation of Crane Rails for Leading Port Terminal
MHE-Demag Vietnam Undertakes its first crane rail installation in a port
Hutchison Port Holdings is one of the world’s leading port terminal operators with 51 terminals around the globe. In 2009, MHE-Demag Vietnam (MDV) was selected by Hutchison Port Holdings to supply and install 1400m of Gantrail crane rail for the new Saigon International Terminal Vietnam (SITV) in the Phu My area, around 80km Southeast of Ho Chi Minh City. The project was worth US$ 800,000,00 and was completed successfully in August 2010.
The Gantrail crane rails were installed close to the quay and laid out to allow container cranes (ship-to-shore cranes) to move sideways along the quay. Each container crane weighs around 1000t, imposing enormous pressure on the rails, especially when in motion. This was the first ever crane rail installation in a port by the MDV team, and the entire project took over a year to complete.
In August 2010, the installation was completed with six container cranes operating on the rails.
