Driven to Success
MHE-Demag Philippines' star driver of almost two decades and counting looks ahead
“Where do you see yourself five years from now?”
This is the dreaded question that is often posed to candidates during job applications, even in our very own MHE-Demag offices. An article published by Forbes reveals that asking an applicant their 5-year career plan indicates their dedication and well-thought blueprint of how they are able to contribute to the organisation and term of stay.

However, a 5-year plan may seem irrelevant for one Camilo Salabsab, who has been a driver with MHE-Demag Philippines for nearly two decades now.
Fondly known as Jun, he was first hired by JJ-LAPP in March 2000 as a company driver, where he assisted in preparing JJ-LAPP cables prior to delivery. In 2004, he was transferred to MHE-Demag. Jun was first assigned as a warehouse delivery driver to provide support for warehouse operations. His responsibilities included transporting orders over designated routes, ensuring safe operation of vehicles and loading and unloading customer orders.
Learning Never Stops
Known for his accident and penalty-free track record behind the wheel, Jun has risen above the ranks and is now the only authorised skilled boom truck operator in MHE-Demag Philippines. In 2018, Jun accepted the challenge of mobilising of the vehicle. He was provided ample training on operatorship and is now able to utilise it to the best of his ability.

A normal workday for Jun begins with checking the 10-wheeler truck he drives and operates, coordination with sales and service engineers, and then equipment loading and delivery.
No job comes without difficulties and Jun has shared the challenges he has met on the job, such as having to observe the truck ban in Manila and major areas in the South, manoeuvring the 10-wheeler truck in small spaces, as well as loading and unloading heavy equipment off the vehicle safely.
Accomplishments and Achievements
As he began to grow with his business, so did his dreams. Jun and his wife are now investing in owning a humble home in Laguna, and his daughter recently graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy.

Jun is also the proud recipient of two MHE DNA awards. In 2016, he was awarded the overall MHE DNA award in recognition of his hard work, accepting tasks without complaints and ensuring all delivery schedules are met whilst meeting customer requirements.
This year, he was awarded the MHE DNA Star Employee Award in Communication. According to his colleagues, Jun treats others with respect and dignity, and goes to great lengths to communicate effectively in the workplace to minimise misunderstandings, ensuring efficiency and accuracy in all aspects of work.
Jun has come a long way since leaving the province of Bohol in 1985 to find better opportunities in Manila. From a private family driver, garment delivery man to a mechanic shop aid, Jun has done it all and it has made him the motivated man he is today. He shares that he feels fortunate to have found his place in MHE-Demag and hopes to retire within the company one day.
Perhaps we should begin asking, “Where do you see yourself 20 years from now?”
Cheers to more years with MHE-Demag, Jun, and thank you for all your years of service!
