Since 1972, MHE-Demag has supplied cranes to various industries across Southeast Asia including the shipyard industry. Our portfolio includes all types of cranes from standard overhead cranes to specially designed gantry cranes. Our cranes are commonly used for lifting steel plates, ship manufacturing, repair work and so on.
In Taiwan, our cranes are supplied to boatbuilder Lung Teh Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. to build patrol boats, interceptor boats, rigid-inflatable boats (RIBs), search-and-rescue boats, and more. A total of four custom designed and manufactured underhung crane units with a capacity of 10 tonnes and a 36-metre span each have been installed on a 56-metre runway. Prior to the appointment of MHE-Demag, Lung Teh specified that the cranes must be high in quality, durable and have low downtimes as the cranes will be used daily to handle heavy materials such as steel plates. According to Raymond Ng, President of MHE-Demag Taiwan, MHE-Demag was able to outmatch the competition with the team’s thorough understanding of the project requirements, customised solutions, technical experience and, most importantly, proven track records.
Over in the Philippines, MHE-Demag supplied eight cranes to Keppel Philippines Marine in Bauan in the Batangas province, Philippines. A loyal customer of MHE-Demag, Keppel currently operates a double girder crane (25-tonne capacity, 24-metre span), three single girder overhead cranes (5- to 10-tonne capacity, 17- to 26-metre span), a double girder semi-gantry crane (15-tonne capacity, 11.5 metre span), and three double girder full gantry cranes (20-to 40-tonne capacity, 24- to 28-metre span), all manufactured and installed by MHE-Demag. The Philippines team was also appointed by Keppel Philippines Marine to undertake long-term maintenance of the cranes.
In just two years, MHE-Demag Malaysia supplied 15 overhead cranes comprising 10- to 160-tonne capacity and 18- to 80-metre span units to Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering. As the cranes are primarily used for general maintenance and repair of ships, our customer required a partner with the necessary experience to provide reliable support for the long haul. With a strong service network of 15 service branches Malaysia-wide backed by a strong reputation, MHE-Demag Malaysia was more than able to meet these requirements, thus, was awarded the projects on these merits. Apart from overhead cranes, we have also delivered a 3.2-tonne slewing jib with a 6.5-metre outreach and a 24.4 metre-span portal crane with 80 tonnes capacity. We continue to serve Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering by providing preventive maintenance service and spare parts.
The Malaysian team also supplies crane solutions to the main contractor for the Royal Malaysian Navy, Boustead Naval Shipyard (BNS). To date, we have supplied two overhead cranes (20-tonne capacity, 40-metre span) for the leading Malaysian shipbuilder’s main indoor assembly plant. These cranes, installed 32 metres above ground level, are designed and built to lift and move heavy hull components at height to facilitate welding and prefabrication works. The completed blocks are transported to the outdoor fabrication yard for assembly where two Demag gantry cranes (20-tonne capacity, 45-metre span) lift the prefabricated module blocks to be welded together with the rest of the blocks.
Operating in the region for more than 40 years, MHE-Demag is known for technical competency and the ability to deliver highly innovative solutions for complex operational challenges. Our multidisciplinary experience covers consultation and design stages, to manufacturing, installation, and commissioning.
